Le professeur Denis Ruellan, de l’Université de Rennes 1, interviendra en séminaire dans le cadre des activités du laboratoire ReSic le mercredi 16 novembre de 17h à 19h au DB2. 332.
Son intervention s’intitulera “Représentation et construction identitaire des journalistes français”  et sera suivie d’une discussion sur les thématiques de recherche actuelles des uns et des autres.

Fabio Pereira, professeur à la faculté de communication de l’Université de Brasilia, sera l’invité d’un séminaire de recherche, le mardi 25 octobre de 10h à 12h, au DC.11.210.
Il interviendra sur Les recherches sur la sociologie professionnelle des journalistes au Brésil, en mettant aussi l’accent sur sa dernière recherche portant sur les carrières des journalistes au Brésil.

Anastasia Kavada de l’Université de Westminster nous présentera ses travaux portant sur l’engagement civique des réseaux sociaux en ligne le 21 octobre à 14h au DC11.210.

Civic Bonding and Engagement on Social Media Platforms

The use of applications associated with the ‘participatory web’ has renewed hopes around the role of the internet in political participation. Social media platforms provide advocacy groups and social movements with new spaces where they can mobilize participation and build relationships with their members. This talk investigates the types of civic engagement and bonding fostered on these online spaces. The analysis is based on a conceptual framework by Flanagin, Bimber and Stohl (2006) which proposes that the supporters’ engagement in the collective can range from entrepreneurial to institutional, while the mode of interaction affects the type of ties created among participants. The empirical material derives from a study of the Facebook page and main Twitter feed of Amnesty International UK and 38 degrees. While Amnesty International UK is a traditional non-governmental organization, 38 degrees represents a hybrid form of mainly internet-based political organization that combines the flexible coordination practices associated with current activism with the more hierarchical characteristics of conventional organizations. The data stems from in-depth observation and features analysis, a content analysis of comments and tweets, as well as interviews with the web communities director of 38 degrees and the web editor of Amnesty International UK.

Biography: Anastasia Kavada is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of Westminster. Her research investigates how social movements and advocacy groups use new communication technologies, from email lists to social media applications. Anastasia’s research interests refer to the relationship between online tools and decentralized organizing practices, democratic decision-making, and the development of solidarity and a sense of common identity among participants in collective action. Her work has appeared in a variety of edited books and academic journals, including Media, Culture & Society, the International Journal of E-Politics, and Information, Communication & Society.

Over the last ten years, Open Access to scientific publications has become a movement of increasing interest. Many questions are still on the floor for discussion. With this evolution in mind, the F.R.S.-FNRS will organize a workshop on Open Access to be held on Wednesday the 28th of September 2011 in Brussels.

The audience will consist of scientists, policy makers and politicians. This workshop, will among others tackle subjects such as: - Financial implications of green and gold roads - Should publicly funded academic knowledge be freely available to all - Policy and role of funding agencies - Editors’ point of view - Berlin and Budapest Declarations : follow-up - Quality peer review for open access publications
